Core functions: support, shaping, reinforcement, and shape retention. As the “skeleton” of clothing, it gives the garment its overall structure and lasting shape.
Located between the outer fabric and the lining, it does not directly contact the skin; its key function is support, which can be compared to the steel frame of a building, constructing a stable foundation.

Core functions: comfort, smoothness, protection, and warmth. Reduces friction between the fabric and skin, protecting both and enhancing wearing comfort.
Located at the innermost layer of clothing, it comes into direct contact with the skin; it’s emphasises feel and drape, much like interior wall panels in architecture, combining practically and tactile sensation.

Core functions: Localised reinforcement, shaping, and anti-stretching. It reinforces specific small areas of clothing prone to deformation, ensuring shape stability in details.
It is attached to specific areas on the back of the fabric; it emphasises local stability, similar to the reinforcement of key nodes in a building, precisely strengthening the stress points.

[Professional Definition] According to the Encyclopedia of China, lining is a special garment accessory that uses woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, and non-woven fabrics as the base fabric, and employs (or does not employ) thermoplastic polymer compounds. It is specially processed by specialized machinery and used as the inner layer of clothing to provide reinforcement and stiffness. It is located between the outer fabric and the lining and is bonded to the outer fabric (or not bonded).
Fusible interlining is a type of fabric with a hot-melt adhesive coating on the back. Through heating (with an iron/press) and applying pressure, the adhesive layer melts and permanently bonds to the fabric, achieving shaping, reinforcement, and deformation prevention without the need for stitching.
It’s often called the “invisible skeleton” of clothing, essential for almost everything that needs to maintain its crispness, from suit collars and shirt plackets to coat cuffs and pocket linings.
Made from cotton or polyester-cotton blend fabric impregnated with resin, it is extremely stiff, has excellent dimensional stability, and is resistant to washing and dry cleaning. It is an ideal lining for men’s shirt collars, waistbands, hood brims, and other areas that require shape retention.
